Fabrics & Fibres
Sassa Moon pieces are crafted from organic cotton, certified European flax linen, and EcoVero rib, chosen for their natural comfort, breathability, and gentle touch on the earth.
We are dedicated to using sustainably grown and responsibly produced fibres that care for both people and planet. Each fabric is selected not only for its beauty and texture but for its ability to return softly to the earth at the end of its life.
Nature in Aotearoa New Zealand — its ocean hues, wild bush greens, and soft coastal light — inspires every Sassa Moon design.
Our next chapter will explore local New Zealand plant dyeing for our upcoming winter wool collection, working towards deeper connection with the landscapes that surround us.
Botanical Dyes — Our Ethos / Kaupapa
At the heart of Sassa Moon is our kaupapa of botanical color — a philosophy grounded in reverence for nature.
Each piece is hand-dyed in the hills of Bali using colour extracted from plants, fruits, and woods — including indigo, ketapang leaf, secang wood, coconut husk, mango, and cherry leaves. These natural dyes are free from harmful chemicals, biodegradable, and non-toxic, creating soft, living hues that mirror the landscapes they come from.
Every dye bath is unique — a quiet collaboration between plant, water, and human hands.
Ethically Made
Sassa Moon was founded by Saskia Koerner, who has worked alongside the same Balinese family of tailors and dye artists since 2008. Their partnership is built on trust, transparency, and care — values that remain at the heart of every Sassa Moon piece.
We honor fair trade principles and ensure all artisans work in safe, respectful environments with fair wages. Each garment carries the touch of their skill and the spirit of slow fashion.
Giving Back
For every Sassa Moon piece sold, one tree is planted in partnership with One Tree Planted.
Trees restore ecosystems, purify air and water, create habitats for wildlife, and nurture wellbeing for communities around the world.
Through this ongoing collaboration, we aim to give back to the earth that gives us so much — one garment, one tree, one act of care at a time.
